NOTE: This list covers most mathematics and
statistics courses from most Michigan institutions that are equivalent
to Oakland University courses numbered below 300 (and a few others as
well, especially MTH 302, 452, and 475). In most cases the name of the
school is a hot link to their home page or, if possible, a page of
descriptions of their math courses, enabling the user to get more
information about their programs and courses. Further information on OU
Department of Mathematics and Statistics undergraduate courses is
available here.
Note that MTH 011 and 012 equivalents carry no transfer credit. Passing them with a C or better will, however, satisfy prerequisites. For more information on prerequisites, see our relevant web page.
In most cases in which a course that nominally seems to be equivalent to our MTE 210 is not listed, it is because the course does not have MTH 012 or higher as a prerequisite, and there is a firm rule adopted by DMS and TDES (SEHS) that such courses are not acceptable. For further information, please contact Jerry Grossman, chief undergraduate adviser in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, at (248) 370-3443 or by e-mail grossman@oakland.edu. [However, Professor Grossman is on sabbatical leave until August 15, 2008, so at this time, please contact Professor Darrell Schmidt at (248) 370-3433 or by e-mail schmidt@oakland.edu or fax ((248) 370-4184). ]
The OU course APM 163 is a lower-level combination of APM 263 and MTH 275. It is unlikely that another school has an equivalent course. Students who have the equivalent of both APM 263 and MTH 275 (or 256) will have met the APM 163 requirement for their program.
Beginning in 2005, we phased out APM 257 and MTH 256 and started offering in APM 255 and MTH 275. Roughly 255 = 257 (but 255 also covers some matrix algebra, including eigenvalues), and 256 = 275. The courses are not exactly the same, but with one exception (see "IMPORTANT" below) we will consider them roughly interchangeable for the purposes of transfer equivalency and counting toward degrees. The differences are that MTH 275 will be somewhat more rigorous than MTH 256, and will involve more proofs; it also will be worth 4 credits rather than 3. Also, APM 255 will cover some linear algebra as well as differential equations, and it, too, will be 4 credits rather than 3. IMPORTANT: If a student needs APM 255 for a degree, then a course from another school that covers JUST differential equations and no linear algebra may not satisfy the degree requirement. Certainly a student who has completed equivalents for both MTH 275 and APM 257 has more than met the requirement of APM 255.
If there are any questions, additions, or corrections, please contact Jerry Grossman, chief undergraduate adviser in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, at (248) 370-3443 or by e-mail grossman@oakland.edu or fax ((248) 370-4184). [However, Professor Grossman is on sabbatical leave until August 15, 2008, so at this time, please contact Professor Darrell Schmidt at (248) 370-3433 or by e-mail schmidt@oakland.edu or fax ((248) 370-4184).]

*Some students may have an older version of Math 115, which did
not include trigonometry, and a separate trigonometry course, Math 125,
needs to have been taken as well by those students, in order to have the
equivalent of MTH 141.
**Math. 135, 205, and 215 together are
equivalent to MTH 154, 155, and 254; because the Adrian catalog is
ambiguous, it is not clear whether these are on a one-for-one basis, and
students need to consult with the adviser in the Department of
Mathematics and Statistics.
